Funny? « Thread Started on Sept 10, 2005, 2:33pm »
Okay, I just wrote an into for a new story of mine and had a friend read it, and he said it was funny. It wasn't meant to be funny, possibly a bit sarcastic, but not funny. Therefore, I need your opinions; should I quit being my somewhat sarcastic self and be monotone and totally sober so people don't laugh at my work and not take it seriously? I might need to post more of the story (if it ever gets written) for you to be able to tell whether or not the tone is right, but here is what I wrote:
It was a time of turmoil, danger, and hatred, and it was a time you and I came very close to experiencing. Only the very brave and the very stupid were seen above ground with the monsters. Monsters. Vampires, demons, orcs, some humans; you name it, and they were up there to destroy all the humanity left in what was once the world of people. How were we spared from this life of terror and cowering? The story is not one of five pages that can be told in front of an elementary classroom. No, no, it is one to be voiced by elders who know the truth to the young in hopes that at least a few will heed the warnings it gives. I shall start from the very beginning, not time-wise, of course, for that might not make sense in this tale. Come all, gather round; fix your tea and gather your blankets as I tell the chronicle of the apocalypse that almost was.
